The Lowcountry Blues Bash comes to a conclusion this week with a handful of local and visiting acts performing around town. Presented by Gary Erwin and the Lowcountry Blues Society, the 21st annual festival kicked off on Feb. 3.
One of the big standout shows of last week’s schedule was Nashville-based electric guitarist and songwriter Scott Holt. He and his band headlined the West Ashley Home Team BBQ behind his new disc, Kudzu. City Paper was there with the video camera rolling (see clip below).
The Lowcountry Blues Club hosts a special Blues Jam at Home Team BBQ in West Ashley on Wed. Feb. 16 at 9 p.m.
Erwin’s own Shrimp City Slim Band — with Silent Eddie Phillips on guitar and John “Clamchop” Etheridge on drums — performs a mix of blues and soul at the Mad River Bar & Grill from 2-5 p.m. on Fri. Feb. 18. Edisto-based blues-rock duo Cotton Blue jams at Aromas at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday as well.
The charismatic Carolina vocalist Wanda Johnson shows off her soulful voice and a swingin’ style at Mad River at 2 p.m. on Sat. Feb. 19.
Singer/guitarist Chick Willis — a.k.a. “The Stoop Down Man” — and his band join N.C. swing group the King Bees for a harbor cruise get-down aboard the Carolina Belle at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday (boarding is at the Maritime Center at 10 Wharfside St.).
