The S.C. Academy of Authors will induct three new writers into the state’s literary hall of fame in March. Charleston’s own Sue Monk Kidd, author of The Secret Life of Bees, The Mermaid Chair, and Traveling with Pomegranates, is among the recognized.

Kidd’s debut novel Bees rocketed her to the top of the best-seller lists in 2002. She’s currently at work on a historical novel.

The other new hall-of-famers include author and poet Percival Everett as well as the late poet Gamel Woolsey, who died in 1968. An awards ceremony will take place at USC Aiken on March 18. Tickets are $35. For more info, see For more on Kidd, check out
