Our local sommeliers deserve some serious props.

During the wine and food festival, Patrick Emerson, the beverage director at the Maverick Restaurant Group, took the Top Sommelier prize at the blind tasting competition. His compadre over at Social, Brad Ball, has been busy crafting his own sparkling wine, La Bubbly, which was unveiled at a party last night.

And over at McCrady’s and Husk, Clint Sloan won not only the City Paper’s readers’ survey for Best Sommelier but also (and we have to admit, probably more prestigiously) Food + Wine’s choice as one of the Top Sommeliers of 2011. They singled out his wine list at Husk for being particularly innovative with its categorization by soil (alluvial, gravel, limestone). We can only expect these guys to keep up the impressive accomplishments. No pressure.
