The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the country’s longest running annual soccer tournament. For 97 consecutive years, the tournament has crowned the U.S. Soccer Federation’s National Champion. Tuesday night, come out to Blackbaud stadium to cheer on the Charleston Battery as they seek to take the crown.

The tournament is unique in that it includes lower division and amateur teams as well as teams from Major League Soccer. Playing against each other in the early rounds, eight lower division teams will advance to the quarterfinals to play eight MLS teams. Each year the tournament is ripe with Cinderella stories as lower division teams scrap their way to upsets over Major League opponents. The Battery has consistently played the role of David in this tournament, knocking off MLS Goliaths such as the Chicago Fire, FC Dallas, and Chivas USA.

This year, the Battery starts its tournament campaign against Texas USASA lower division team Regals FC. If the Battery are victorious, they will host another home tournament game next Tuesday. After a run to the quarterfinals in last year’s tournament, your Charleston Battery are looking to take down more MLS foes in route to a championship birth. Get your soccer hooligan on tonight and help cheer your Battery through to the next round.
