Shocking news in the Roadside Kitchen world. Chef Brett McKee is out.

“I woke up Friday morning and was shocked to encounter an e-mail from my partners that I was effectively terminated,” says McKee, who received a favorable review from our food critic today.

The termination came as a surprise to the chef, whose face and name is intimately associated with each restaurant: 17 North in Mt. Pleasant, 15 North in Charlotte, and Brett’s Roadside Kitchen on James Island.

“After 37 years in the business and 22 years in Charleston, successfully promoting and operating restaurants and tirelessly giving back to the community through my charitable work, I really don’t know what I’m going to do,” says McKee. “For the first time in my life, and despite my best efforts, I am at a total loss for what the future holds. Right now, I am open for the next exciting opportunity that comes my way.”
