Singer/songwriter Gillian Welch is back on tour to promote her recently released album, The Harrow and the Harvest. The three-month tour will see her cross the country from California to North Carolina; she’ll even make several TV appearances. The trip includes a summer date in Charleston.

Without a major album release since 2003’s Soul Journey, the time off afforded Gillian some space between her and the stress of the industry. With a refreshed view of the South, the Acony Records-produced CD boasts a new sound that is powered by pain, but also a good amount of humor. The time away also tightened her connection with partner David Rowlings. Their music seems as crisp and cohesive as ever, producing a singular sound and voice.

Welch will bring her Appalachian-inspired bluegrass to the Charleston Music Hall on Sun. Aug. 28. Tickets for the show are available for $30 via etix.com. See gillianwelch.com for more. —Lucas Hagerty
