You’ve got to give it to the Rick Perry campaign. They’re trying really hard to put a positive spin on their man’s monumental debate misstep in Michigan.
Early this morning, they sent out a press release to undo the damage done by the Lord of Niggerhead.
The subject line was a beaut, a prime example why candidates pay the big bucks to political consultants: “So, what agency would you most like to forget?”
I know. Fucking genius, right? Fucking genius.
But the campaign may have inadvertently stepped in it again, but reminding voters that the late, great Ronald Reagan was, gasp, a flawed man, too, and comparing himself to the most dunderheaded of all modern American presidents, Gerald Ford.
We’ve all had human moments. President Obama is still trying to find all 57 states. Ronald Reagan got lost somewhere on the Pacific Highway in an answer to a debate question. Gerald Ford ate a tamale without removing the husk. And tonight Rick Perry forgot the third agency he wants to eliminate. Just goes to show there are too damn many federal agencies.
The Perry camp then asks:
While the media froths over this all too human moment, we thought we would take this opportunity to ask your help in doing something much more constructive: write us to let us know what federal agency you would most like to forget.
Is it the EPA and its job-killing zealots? The NLRB and its czar-like dictates? The edu-crats at the Department of Education who aim to control your local curriculum?
What’s particularly interesting here is that only one of these agencies, the Department of Education, was among the three that Perry said he wanted to eliminate.
The other two? The Department of Energy and the Department of Commerce.
I guess Perry’s not the only person in his campaign with a piss-poor memory. So are the jackasses who send out his press releases.
