- Kevin Church
After just three years of making his way as a professional musician in Charleston, songwriter Kevin Church has two albums to his credit and another on the way in 2012. In 2009, he released his self-produced debut titled Let It Begin and followed quickly with his sophomore effort, A Little Change in 2010. Heโs currently recording a new EP with a full band in Charlotte, N.C., at Russo Studios, scheduled to be released in late January.
Churchโs forthcoming EP, a five-song disc titled To Each His Own, maintains his Southern heritage as a storyteller. โMy lyrics are still strong, but my music is growing,โ Church says. โHank Williams, Bob Dylan, and Jim Morrison have long been influences, but lately Iโve developed a strong appreciation for J. J. Cale. Iโve always liked his work, but I am more pleased with a simplistic artistic delivery.โ
Chris Cook, one of Churchโs old buddies from Charlotte, helped the songwriter arranged a few dates in Key West, Fla., at the Lazy Gecko. The two taped a music video for the new song โWorst Enemy,โ a track from Churchโs upcoming EP.
Church performs a handful of shows this week. Heโll be at Planet Follywood on Folly Beach on Fri. Dec. 23 and Toast on Meeting Street on Tues. Dec. 27. Check out kevinchurch.info for more. โDuffy Lewis
