In the film L.A. Story, Steve Martin loses his job as a wacky weatherman when he falsely pre-records a forecast for sunny skies before a weekend of storms.

And this Weekend Round-Up may be a bit like that. It was written last week, the City Paper’s last week open in 2011, so there may be a few events missing from this wrap up. But hey, we did the best we can. There’s always next year.

Also, there’s not much going on this weekend. Of course, there’s a bazillion New Year’s Eve events, but we’ve already done a wrap-up on those here, and you can see all the listings here.

You’ll probably be hung over on Sunday, and nothing cures one of those quite like diving into frigid Atlantic waters at the Dunleavy’s Pub Polar Plunge. Then warm back up at the Chili and Cornbread Cookoff at Locals Coffee Bar. Or if you’d rather go to Folly, its plunge is hosted by Snapper Jack’s, and there’s an oyster roast at Blu afterward.

The Piggly Wiggly Roundball Classic continues through Friday.

The beloved Mary Kay Has a Posse returns to Theatre 99 for a show. There’s also the Theatre 99 Improv Jam.

The S.C. Stingrays New Year’s Eve game against the Florida Everblades will be followed by a balloon drop, where all the balloons will surely be popped within moments by any ice skates.

And it’s your last chance to see the Holiday Festival of Lights, whether at their Winter Carnival or otherwise.
