American Idol, you’ve finally come to your senses. You’ve decided to give Elise Testone more than just a two or three second passing mention. In fact, on last night’s show, you let America see exactly what Testone can do — and that’s to belt it the frak out.
During last night’s Las Vegas group round — Seriously, another group round? I thought we were done with this flippin’ group BS — Elise and her comrades Reed Grimm, Eben Franckewicz, and Haley Johnson tackled the old school classic “Night Has a Thousand Eyes.
While fan favorite Grimm led off the song — and once again the blue-eyed soul singer delivered an oddly charismatic combo of solid singing, stellar showmanship, and newborn-colt spazziness — it was the Holy City’s Testone who stood out, especially at the end of the song, when her epic pipes were unleashed.
Here’s what Entertainment Weekly had to say:
The best part about “Night Has A Thousand Eyes” was Elise Testone, she of the sexy red shoes and black and white geometric dress. I thought she classed up the whole song with a maturity unable to be matched by Reed Grimm and Newsies understudy Eben Franckewicz. Reed and Eben seemed to be playing characters onstage while Elise looked like she was living out the experience as herself. Just something I noticed. I probably didn’t explain that very well. Haley Johnson was with them, too — her voice seemed weaker compared to Elise but frankly all of these guys were good.
As soon as we find a video of last night’s Las Vegas performance, we’ll put it up. Until then this little vid should whet your appetite.
