The American Classical Music Hall of Fame recently announced its 2011 class of inductees. Charles Wadsworth, who served as Spoleto Festival USA’s artistic director for chamber music for more than 30 years, is among the six inductees.

Wadsworth’s stint with the festival began in 1959, when late Spoleto founder Gian Carlo Menotti hired him to direct the chamber music end of his new arts festival in Spoleto, Italy. Twenty years later, he brought Wadsworth to Charleston, where he worked to make chamber music more accessible and exciting. He retired in 2009 at the age of 80.

The other artists and organizations being installed are conductor Sir Georg Solti, composer John Corigliano, performer Gregor Piatigorsky, Chorus America, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
