When the City of Charleston unveiled their much-ballyhooed bike lanes — er, bike guide markers or whatever the hell the city apparently calls them for legal reasons — on Chapel Street, we here at the City Paper scoffed. The lanes were not only teeny tiny, they were flush up against the row of parked cars on Chapel, and in some cases, the cars were actually parked in the bike lanes. To this day, we haven’t seen anybody ride in these so-called lanes. They’re useless. But the bike lanes on Morrison Drive — those suckers are a thing of beauty. They’re nice and wide and well marked, and there’s nary a parked car to worry about. Kudos, Mayor Joe. Kudos.
