Darius Rucker

East Cooper recording studio Charleston Sound welcomed a special client this month. Charleston-based singer/songwriter Darius Rucker (of Hootie and the Blowfish) has spent several weeks tracking and doing pre-production work for his next solo country record.

Critically acclaimed producer, Frank Rogers — a busy studio wiz known best for his collaborations with Trace Adkins, Brad Paisley, and Josh Turner — oversaw the sessions.

“Darius also flew in an A-Team of session musicians from Nashville,” says studio owner Jeff Hodges. “We had a five-piece band cutting live with Darius laying down scratch vocals. These guys were amazing. The way they make records is the old-fashioned way with everyone playing live real time and the producer sitting in the room with them, making changes to arrangements and charts on the fly and trying different things. I’ve never recorded a band so tight.”

The sessions will wrap up over the next few weeks. Visit charlestonsound.com and dariusrucker.com for more.
