One of my favorite movies is The Last Picture Show. It’s touching, it’s shot beautifully, Jeff Bridges and Cybil Sheppard are total babes in it — I could go on. And my favorite part of the whole thing is Ellen Burstyn. She’s the only sensible person in the whole film. She’s also awesome in Requiem for a Dream, The Exorcist, and more. She’s also an author and a screenwriter.

Which is why I’m really stoked that she’s going to be in town for a one-night-only performance to benefit the Sophia Institute, which takes place at the Memminger on March 29 at 7 p.m. Details are pretty slim, but it’s Ellen freaking Burstyn. Her caliber alone makes the $50 ticket price (or $100 for the performance and a reception).
