Do you consider yourself an Instagram artiste? If so, you’re in luck, because not one but two local galleries are gathering submissions for a smart phone-based photography show.
Rebekah Jacob Gallery, which is now settling into its new space on Upper King, is seeking works for Ways of Seeing: Phoneography through June 3. Though the gallery is better known for its “traditional-with-an-edge aesthetic,” owner Jacob wanted to explore the artistic possibilities of the medium. “iPhone images are the intersection of creativity and technology,” Jacob says in a release. The show will open July 12 and will include up to 500 photos selected by staff members. iPhotographers can submit up to 10 images, and they all must be edited with an IOS device. Send your submissions to submissions@rebekahjacobgallery.com. Find out more at rebekahjacobgallery.com.
Gris Galerie is hosting a similar show with a tighter deadline. Their May show, Charlstagram, is focused exclusively on Instagram photography. Submissions are due April 20, and they can be made by tagging @grisgalerie #charlstagram on Instagram or by emailing grisgalerie@gmail.com. The show will be May 4 from 6-10 p.m. at the Old Gadsden Funeral Home.
