Jamie Lin Snider, always the affable host, opened her King Street retail space to DD172 and Visualive to host a party in celebration of all things music and fashion.
Local 172, from DD172’s creative directors David Chang and David Barnett, is a vintage preppy meets hip-hop shop for men with a few women’s pieces thrown in. They decided to bring their pieces to Charleston and found a home in Snider’s backyard. Chang and Barnett are with Damon Dash’s creative collective, DD172 — and, yes, Dash was in attendance.
We’ve all seen those late ’90s hip-hop videos and may formulate some preconceived notions of what to expect of a music mogul’s throw-down, but the party was far from bottle-popping and booty-shaking. It was a more subdued scene as guests gathered around Snider’s store to listen to a performance by Dash’s BluRoc Records artists Mckenzie Eddy and Kat CHR.
Outside, shoppers browsed the Local 172 collection and drank two-buck chuck as they discussed their plans for the weekend. Snider, wearing one of her spring collection designs, was on hand to help change the keg and to give fashion advice. We saw a lot of familiar faces from Charleston Fashion Week and a cavalcade of cool kids mingling throughout the night. The evening was glorious and we were thankful the event felt more like a house party than a MTV-style bash.
