Acme Lowcountry Cantina (31 J. C. Long Blvd.) has gotten another facelift. Last year, they renovated the dining room, cleared a new parking area, and enhanced the selection of entrées and appetizers with a handful of new seafood dishes.
This year, Chef Frank Kline redid the breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus at the Isle of Palms eatery. “We’ve been in an ever-changing environment since I started,” says Kline, who signed on with Acme in 2010. “We’ve really made a push recently to focus more on local fare and seafood, and to take a step back from any Mexican or Tex-Mex ideals that the restaurant had become slightly familiar with.”
This spring, Kline and his team started serving breakfast seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a light lunch menu from 2-5 p.m. Their weekend brunches were already popular, but now patrons can enjoy pancakes, eggs benedict, or seafood omelettes well into any afternoon. The lunch and dinner menus have veered away from the original burritos and tacos to emphasize seafood and traditional Lowcountry-style cuisine, like field succotash, red rice, and pimento cheese grits.
Kline currently orders his shrimp from Carolina Seafood in McClellanville, his crab meat from Garland and Fulcher in North Carolina, and his fresh fish from Charleston-based Crosby’s Seafood (including swordfish, wreckfish, grouper, flounder, snapper, and sheepshead). He’s added more locally grown produce as well, including hydroponically grown microgreens and specialty lettuces from Sweetbay Produce in Huger.
“In the next few weeks, we plan to reveal our new menu, which will have an even stronger focus on seafood, fresh fish, and South Carolina products,” Kline says.
