The cyclist who was killed in a hit-and-run collision with a motorist around 1:30 a.m. on Friday has been identified as 51-year-old Gerard Nieto of Charleston.

The Charleston Police Department is still trying to find the driver, who is believed to have driven south after hitting Nieto in front of the Best Western hotel at Savannah Highway and White Oak Drive, and they’re asking for help from the public.

Police spokesman Charleston Francis says investigators are looking for a 2009–2012 sterling-gray metallic Ford F-150 pickup truck that might have been involved in the fatality. The vehicle has damage on the right side near the headlight.

Anyone with information about this incident can call Charleston police at (843) 577-7434 or Crime Stoppers at (843) 554-111.
