Ever heard of leg wrestling?
“It’s sort of like thumb wrestling, but with your legs,” says Dee Dee Destroy Her, a member of the Lowcountry Highrollers Bruisin’ Betties B Team and organizer of their fundraiser at Earshot Records Saturday. Two people lay on their backs with their heads on opposite ends. They each raise a leg and go at it. The object of the game is flipping the other person completely over. “We’ll have mats laid out,” Dee Dee assures us, “so no one gets hurt.”
The fundraiser at Earshot Records from 4-7 p.m. will raise money for a regional tour this fall and for training workshops. The Betties have games scheduled against the Columbia Quad Squad in Columbia and the Atlanta Roller girls in August, and they will also take on Cape Fear in North Carolina this November. Before then, they’re hoping to have some guest coaches from other teams lead workshops focusing on technique.
Along with leg wrestling, there will also be a spanking booth. No, you may not spank the derby girls, but they’ll gladly spank you. Dee Dee tells us it’s been a hit for other derby teams, and they expect the same Saturday. It’s a rough world on the roller rink, so this way they can see who’s tough enough to keep up.
For those less daring, there will be a raffle (you can tell your friends you went gambling) with gift cards from Ronnie Trotter at Salon 101, Earshot Records, Kiln Time, Jack’s Cosmic Dogs, and two PBR swag bags. The winners of the raffle will be announced at the after-party hosted by Recovery Room from 7 p.m. until close.
