The family of a murdered North Charleston liquor store owner is offering a reward for tips leading to the arrest of his killer.

Police found James Island resident Matthew Renken’s body under a table inside Port City Liquors on Dorchester Road on April 23, and they declared his death a murder in early May. Crime Stoppers has offered a $1,000 reward for tips leading to the killer’s arrest, and Renken’s family announced today that they are offering an additional $10,000.

In a statement released through their attorney, Renken’s family members call for anyone with information to “do the right thing.” The statement is signed by Renken’s mother and stepfather, Linda Renken and Nick Wackym:

“All we want is to find whoever did this to our son. Matthew was kind, loving, generous, and made friends wherever he went. We want to make sure that the person(s) who did do this never have another chance to kill someone’s brother, son, or uncle. Our hearts are heavy, and all we want is a resolution to our son’s senseless death. No parent should endure this heartache …

“We must all do our duty to stop this wave of domestic terrorism, i.e. random murders, drug-related crime, and fear that is sweeping our cities, states, and our country. God help us recover our humanity.”
