This Saturday, museums across the country are opening their doors in the spirit of the Smithsonian with the annual Museum Day Live. Smithsonian Magazine has collaborated with hundreds of museums nationwide to declare one day of entirely free museum enjoyment. All you need is a ticket, which is good for two people and downloadable from the Smithsonian website, and to find a participating museum near you.

This year, Drayton Hall is offering tours of the plantation from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. On Sept. 29-30, check out the Powder Magazine’s exhibit of 18th century artifacts that focus on the old walled city of Charlestowne. You may also want to make the trek out to the Georgetown County Museum, where you can explore agricultural methods used in the 17th century.

If you’re in the mood for a day trip, head to Columbia to check out the Rothko exhibit at the Columbia Museum of Art, and while you’re there, stop by the McKissick Museum.
