Right now, at this moment, I’m about to blow a gasket like I’m a faulty R2 unit the Jawas are trying to sell to Uncle Owen and his bitchy-ass nephew Luke Skywalker.
The reason: I’m following the latest hackergate presser from Nikki Haley, and the good guv is blaming the damn thing on the fact that the S.C. Dept. of Revenue was using equipment from the 1970s, at least in part.
Ladies and gentlemen, I hate to break it to you, but this is BS. There is simply no way that the Revenue Department was using equipment from the Disco Era to process and store online tax returns. Seriously, do you really think that a computer from 1977 has the computing power to handle today’s software programs? Do you think it would even know how to interact with the internet?
Fortunately, Thanksgiving is in just a few days, and I’ll be able to binge my troubles away.
Update: Live 5 has the official report up detailing the specifics of the attack. The report does not mention R2-D2, Twiki, or any other robotic relic from the 1970s.
Here’s the presser video. Haley makes the 1970s equipment remark just after the 3-minute mark.
