Live 5 News is reporting that Fowler’s Mustache guitarist Nick Collins has gotten out of bed for the first time since August.

Collins was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident, resulting in his leg being amputated. On Monday, he was able to make his way out of bed and into a wheelchair.

Live 5 spoke to Collins in his MUSC hospital room, and he seemed to be in very high spirits.

“I was out for six or seven weeks and then for the next three weeks I couldn’t talk,” said Collins remembering back to the first days he woke up from a coma. “I’m still supposed to be in the ICU. I was projected to be in the hospital 18 months.”

NAC Wins, the organization set up by Collins’ friends, family, and bandmates, has raised tens of thousands of dollars for Collins’ medical expenses since the accident. According to the NAC Wins website, there are no benefits planned for the rest of the year, but stay tuned for future events.
