Little Miss Codependent
Brandy Sullivan and Jessica Mickey have been best friends for 10 years. They’re both members of the all-girl super comedy troupe Mary Kay Has a Posse, but since the other group members live out of town, Brandy and Jessica decided to start their own show — mostly so they could hang out. Little Miss Codependent is their way of having fun while working, as Brandy explains. “It was our great friendship and good rapport on stage that led to this,” she says. Better yet, with this show, you always get what you want. Little Miss Codependent is driven by audience suggestions — the girls perform a series of solo characters based on your ideas.
Human Fireworks
Have you ever experienced something that caused an immediate freak-out, but then you could laugh about your stupidity and bad luck later? Maybe you locked your keys in the car when you were already running late. Maybe you said something awkward to your boss by accident. Or maybe your life is just one big comedy of errors. Whatever the case may be, sometimes life is just funny — we don’t need to role-play to find the comedy in everyday situations. That’s what makes Human Fireworks a standout improv show. Greg Tavares, Tommy Hutchins, Andy Livengood, and Brian DeCosta make up the group, and they’ve become pros at simply acting like themselves and laughing at their misfortunes — no made-up characters necessary. Tavares says Human Fireworks is different than all the other shows because of this very specific approach to improv. “We start the show by ripping on real personal memories,” explains Tavares, “and this leads to funny ideas. The show is based on those memories and the true things revealed about ourselves.”
