Gainsville, Fla., indie rock band Holopaw is playing a free in-store show at Monster Music and Movies Sat. Feb. 2, at 3 p.m. The band’s singer John Orth (ex-Ugly Casanova) is like an indie rock Antony of Antony and the Johnson’s fame, while Holopaw itself sounds a bit like the early Shins with a bump of alt-country, a surprising combo considering that the Gainsville scene is known for producing nearly combustible levels of punk and hardcore. Before, after, or even during the free show — we mentioned it was free right, like you don’t have to shell out any cash money — you can take advantage of a 20 percent-off sale on all vinyl at Monster. Holopaw is also playing a show that same night at Tin Roof with Matt Pond PA and Bobby Long. For more info, check out monstermusicsc.com.
