“There was a fire at the corner of Coming and Bogard.” So goes the chorus to “Lakeside Trust,” a standout track by the band Brave Baby on the latest free sampler from Charleston-based record label Hearts and Plugs.

As far as we can tell, “Lakeside Trust” is the only song of the bunch that deals with the past decade’s string of suspicious fires on the peninsula. The other tracks are a worthwhile introduction to some fresh young faces on the scene. Songs by Charleston bands Brave Baby, Elim Bolt, and Run Dan Run highlight the record label’s sensitive-dude indie rock aesthetic, and Columbia electronic act The Lovely Few contributes two songs from a series of concept albums about meteor showers. The prolific, Brooklyn-based electronic voyager Mr. Jenkins also contributes two accessible new tracks, “You’re Free” and “Suddenly, I Don’t Feel So Afraid.”

Fans of Elim Bolt will appreciate a new twist on the song “Field,” with the band’s usual crooner swing giving way to an all-out punk sprint to the end. And fans of free new music might find themselves with a few new favorite bands.
