Although this week’s weather promises rain, we’ve found an excuse to head over to James Island for something other than the pursuit of sun. Instead, we’re looking to find warmth in the brick oven at new pizza place, Crust, which opens Tuesday next to Zia Taqueria.

Chef Dusty Chorvat formerly of Vespa on Daniel Island has nine specialty pies on the inaugural menu. You’ll find classic combos along with some less traditional pizza, like butternut and crustacean (we’re dying to try that one). If you’re not the fearless eaters that we are, don’t worry, because there are plenty of toppings and combinations for you to create a custom pie. (We won’t judge you if you stick with a classic like margarita).

You can bet there will be more for you to burn the roof of your mouth on than just pizza, with a variety of dishes inspired by Italy and the Lowcountry alike. If the idea of a cheese-filled risotto ball (Arancini) doesn’t appeal to you, maybe the braised pork panini will get your mouth watering. They’ll have 20 beers on tap, and wines offered by the glass and the bottle. And for dessert, there’s wood-fired s’mores. Yum.

We’re betting you’re ready to drive over there for a pie fresh from the oven — we know we are.
