Shovels and Rope is Charleston’s most in-demand musical married couple, so we’re not surprised that one-half of a formerly married musical couple has taken notice of them.
On April 2, Third Man Records — the label owned by Jack White — will release Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent’s contribution to the Blue Series. The single releases are recorded when musical acts travel through Nashville. Past contributors include Beck, Tom Jones, and, of all people, the Insane Clown Posse.
According to Rolling Stone’s website, the pair has reworked Bruce Springsteen’s “Johnny 99” (off of the epic Nebraska) and Tom Waits’ “Bad as Me” (the title track from his 2011 release).
The release will be available on iTunes and vinyl. It’s $6 and you can pre-order it on Third Man’s website.
Here’s Bruce’s original—what do you think?
