Biden at a West Virginia political rally in 2008

The Post and Courier is reporting that Vice President Joe Biden will make his first trip to the Holy City since the City Paper recognized the veep for the dubious 2013 Best of Charleston Critics’ Pick, “Best Way to Stop Traffic and Piss Off Everyone: Invite Joe Biden into town”.

You ask yourself at least once a week: “What could make my commute from James Island to North Charleston any worse?” Well, every once in a while, the Veep likes to descend on the Holy City, hair plugs and all, to answer your question. Whether he’s heading to Kiawah for some golf and glad-handing or bringing downtown drive times to a halt, it’s a sure bet that for every person lining the side of the road to welcome our nation’s No. 2, there are four times as many people idling on I-526 who couldn’t care less.

Biden has been a frequent visitor to the Charleston area for political events in recent years and often retreats to Kiawah for getaways over holiday weekends. Expect delays on area roadways between Charleston International Airport and Kiawah Island, including the highway formerly known as I-526.
