A headline from page B1 of The Post and Courier had more than a few Charlestonians shooting orange juice out their noses at breakfast this morning:

OK, let’s review:
genteel (adj.): having an aristocratic quality or flavor : stylish; maintaining or striving to maintain the appearance of superior or middle-class social status or respectability
gentile (adj.): of or relating to the nations at large as distinguished from the Jews
In case you missed it, the story is about Bravo’s upcoming reality-TV stereotype train wreck, Southern Charm, which is being filmed in Charleston and features such luminaries as South of Broad socialite Whitney Sudler-Smith and former state treasurer Thomas Ravenel, who pleaded guilty to a cocaine distribution charge in 2007 and has since taken to campaigning against the War on Drugs. The network is pitching the show as “a real-life look at how modern-day Southern aristocracy lives.”
But apparently there won’t be any Jews.
