We love our craft beers, which is why Georgia-based brewery Red Hare Brewing Company has picked Charleston as its first city for out-of-state distribution.
Red Hare is an independent microbrewery that opened two years ago in Marietta, Ga. and has since expanded throughout the state. Now, they’re eager to see how their beers are received in a city that really knows its brews.
“We wanted to expand to the coast, and from our understanding, Charleston is just a really crafty city,” says Red Hare brewer Bobby Thomas. The brewery’s three signature styles, the Long Day Lager, Gangway IPA, and Watership Brown Ale, will all be available in both kegs and cans.
“Our Long Day Lager is a lighter beer, designed to bridge the gap between craft and domestic drinkers,” says Thomas. “Our Gangway IPA is a mild IPA, but still has a strong aroma, while our Watership Brown Ale is more of a hoppy beer.”
On Wed. May 15 at 5 p.m. for American Craft Beer Week, Laura Alberts on Daniel Island will be hosting a “Blow the Keg” event featuring Red Hare Gangway IPA and Long Day Lager. It’s $10 to drink until the keg is kicked.
They’ll also have Red Hare Watership Brown ale and a special limited keg of Red Hare Rabbit’s Reserve #1 Chocolate Porter.
A representative from the brewery will be on hand to talk shop at 6 p.m. and give away glassware and swag. They’ll also raffle off a growler of the Red Hare Chocolate Porter.
