Local no-kill animal shelter Pet Helpers is hitting the reality show circuit on Give Me Shelter,

produced by local company Palmetto Coast Media. The show focuses on Pet Helpers and their no-kill approach, following the organization’s efforts to adopt the animals they care for into “forever homes.”
The show will cover the shelter as a whole, but the first two episodes zero in on a couple of specific animals, including one who came to the shelter flea-ridden and unable to open his eyes. The episode follows his journey back to health all the way through to his adoption.
“The goal of this show is probably just to educate the public on what the shelters go through to provide for these pets,” says Caroline Morris, Manager of Communications, Advocacy & Outreach. “We take in animals who have no chance left.” This includes the animals that would otherwise be put down at county shelters, or those who have life-threatening injuries or illnesses. Pet Helpers cares for the animals until they are ready to be adopted, and then they find them new homes. “We get very attached to each individual animal … it can be both a heartwarming and a heartbreaking situation,” Morris says. “It’s a really fulfilling thing to watch.”
Give Me Shelter will be airing internationally on the Discovery Channel in Japan, Europe, and parts of the Middle East and Africa, but the show is still being pitched to domestic networks.
