The Charleston International Film Festival, which took place April 24-28, has announced the award winners from this year’s festival.

The winner of Best Film, somewhat surprisingly, was a short rather than a feature. “A House, a Home” was a poetic exploration of life beyond the grave by Daniel Fickle. Other notable winners include the short “Smile,” an Italian film about a mime and his son, and the American Commencement, a sweet story of a family caught up in the Great Recession by UCLA professor Steve Albrezzi.
