Dusten Brown, the 31-year old biological father of Baby Veronica, was arrested and released on bond this morning after turning himself in to Oklahoma law enforcement, according to Charleston County and Cherokee Nation officials.
Attorneys for Brown say he did not attend this morning’s tribal hearing and voluntarily turned himself in to Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office around 10:40am, where he was processed on charges of custodial interference and released on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond, according to Oklahoma online records and Charleston County Sheriff’s Office. Brown’s mugshot was posted online by Tulsa World.
Brown’s arrest comes a few hours after Matt and Melanie Capobianco issued a tearful appeal to local, state, and federal officials, including Gov. Nikki Haley, FBI Director Bob Meuller, and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder for their assistance in helping return Veronica to Charleston–a county judge said last month that the Capobianos are the legal parents of the three-year old.
Charleston County law enforcement officials say they “are in communications with Oklahoma officials in regards to the extradition process as well as pursuing all available options in locating Baby Veronica.”
