That’ll probably be the case when Second City comes to the Holy City for the College of Charleston’s parents’ weekend. The world famous Chicago comedy club opened its doors in 1959 and will bring its touring comedians to perform two shows on Sept. 28. Part of the Happily Ever Laughter tour, the comedians will combine improv and scripted bits to perform sketches that have made the company famous over the last 53 years.
“They’ve been around for a long time and they’ll be reviving some of their skits,” says Mike Robertson, CofC’s Senior Director of Media Relations.
“Many of comedy’s brightest stars have hit the road with the Second City Touring Company including Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, Amy Poehler, Steve Carell, Bill Murray, Keegan Michael Key, and most recently, current Saturday Night Live stars Cecily Strong, Tim Robinson, and Jason Sudeikis,” according to CofC’s news page.
The Second City website names Dan Aykroyd and Gilda Radner as their first Second City Cast in Toronto and later cast members included John Candy, Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, and Martin Short.
