Gene’s Haufbrau, one of Charleston’s oldest bars, has solved the age-old problem of smokers clustering outside the front door and assaulting everybody who walks in with their death fumes.

They’ve taken over the building next door (the old Poe Studio) and turned it into a smoking patio. Kind of like those train cars or booths at the airport where smokers were once able to huddle together in a hazy enclosure and get their nicotine fix, this open-air room is designed for utility not pleasure.
