Nothing helps a writer like a deadline, and now aspiring S.C. novelists have one: The South Carolina First Novel Prize, which awards one winning novelist a publishing deal with Hub City Press, is accepting submissions through March 3, 2014.

To be eligible, writers must have not yet published a novel (including self-published or e-books). Between six and eight finalists will be chosen by a panel, and then judged by novelist Ben Fountain, author of Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk and winner of a PEN/Hemingway Award, two O. Henry Awards, and a Pushcart Prize, among others.

Hub City Press will publish at least 1,500 copies of the winning author’s book, and the author will be given significant opportunities for promotion, including a book signing at the 2015 South Carolina Book Festival.
