[image-1]After Thanksgiving we’ve got Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and now #GivingTuesday — but that last one is, as they say, a horse of a different color. Instead of trying to get you to spend money on TVs, iPads, and clothes, #GivingTuesday is a national day of philanthropy, when people are urged to donate money to their favorite causes in a free-for-all giving spree. Which is, of course, much more in the spirit of the holidays.
To participate in #GivingTuesday, all you have to do is go to community.givingtuesday.org on Dec. 3, search for an organization that you’d like to support, and make your donation.
The Charleston Academy of Music (CAM) has decided to participate this year, and they’ve set a fundraising goal of $19,200. The money will be used to fund tuition scholarships for 10 students for a full year, with students selected through a rigorous process based on financial need and musical aptitude. The funds will also benefit students in the Kidzymphony program, a free, after-school program for underserved and impoverished children at Meeting Street Academy, who otherwise could not afford private lessons.
Donations made on Dec. 3 will be matched 100 percent, so it’s a great chance to double your impact. Find out more at charlestonmusic.org/GivingTuesday.
