What can we say — Christmas is on crack this year. Christmas music has been playing nonstop on one local radio station for a month now. If you, your kids or your pets want to meet Santa, go on a sleigh ride, or eat breakfast with the big man himself, you can. Lowcountry residents also have the chance to attend and participate in several local events benefiting various local charities. No matter what you celebrate, there’s a holiday activity for everyone. Here’s what’s happening this week:
If the weather’s lovely, why not take a complimentary horse-drawn carriage ride through Towne Center.
Lend a helping hand to East Cooper Community Outreach and see what Santa eats for breakfast when you sit down with the big guy himself at Burtons Grill in Towne Center.
Winter is the most appropriate time of year for animals to wear sweaters, so give your pet an extra treat when you make it wear clothes for a photo opp with Santa at the Citadel Mall.
Not only can Santa deliver presents around the world in a single night — he can also scuba dive. See Scuba Claus in the Big Ocean Tank at the S.C. Aquarium through Dec. 23.
Go where no carriage has gone before on a historical walking tour of Charleston’s colorful houses dressed in their holiday finest.
See how Christmas was celebrated in the Victorian period before electric Christmas lights at Christmas 1860 at the Edmonton-Alston House, or enjoy the annual Dickens Dinner with storyteller Tim Lowry at Circa 1886.
Can’t get enough Christmas music and dancing? The Charleston Music Hall will put on the Charleston Christmas Special filled with holiday surprises.
Walk around the Christmas trees on King Street and enjoy shopping discounts when you take part in the King Street Shop Walk on Dec. 13. If you can’t make it to the Shop Walk, then spread the cheer and stroll down the middle of King Street for an extended version of Second Sunday — Third and Fourth Sundays.
Have a holly jolly Saturday at the Avondale Holiday Winterfest.
