History has a bad rap. People seem to remember a boring old teacher reciting dates and long names that seem irrelevant to their everyday life. While history is a lot more than that, the people of Funny or Die decided they knew how to spice up historical retellings. The answer, of course, was with alcohol, which is why it was only a matter of time before Charleston’s history was featured on Drunk History. Our historical and boozy city will be visited by Derek Waters (creator and star of the show) on Jan. 15 and 16, and according to the show’s Facebook page, the bars that they’ll be visiting will be announced shortly.
Now a full-fledged show on Comedy Central, Drunk History uses hammered comedians to relate historical events in a conversational manner and with celebrities playing historical figures. Zooey Deschanel played Mary Todd Lincoln, Jason Schwartzman took on Ralph Nader, Aubrey Plaza became Sacagawea, and the list goes on.
Stay tuned for more info on where and when they’ll be in the Holy City. And if you haven’t seen the show, head to Comedy Central or Funny or Die to check it out. But be warned, some of the shows end with vomit. Cheers.
