It’s 40 minutes after midnight and you’re stumbling out onto the sidewalk blitzed and bleary eyed, wearing a silly cone hat, preposterous 2014 sunglasses, and blowing hard on that noisemaker into the face of everyone you see. You also might be thinking, Hey, no, I’m cool, it’s cool, I can drive, I’m good, you’re good, HAAAPPY NEW YEAR!

Well, if that’s you tonight, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Department will be working overtime to make sure your obnoxious face ends up in the mug shot magazines. Deputies are amping up their DUI checkpoints around the Holy City this evening.

Beginning at 8 p.m. cops will set up checkpoints on Highway 61 near Drayton Hall Elementary School, and on Mikel Drive and Harbor View Road.

But seriously, have fun and stay safe out there tonight, folks. Happy new year!
