Ah, Spoleto. We can hardly wait. But we don’t really have to wait, do we? Patrons can get a jumpstart on the arts orgy this Friday night at the Memminger. Spoleto will be throwing a Latin-themed party to go along with its annual auction.
The night, which will raise money for the Spoleto Orchestra, will ply partiers with tapas and wine to help fuel their salsa dancing — and hopefully their high-stakes bidding — while The Charleston Latin-Jazz Collective lays down the Cuban beats.
Instead of a silent auction, Spoleto has an online auction, which opens to all bidders today. Some of the items up for bid include original art by Paul Yanko, a silver feather ring crafted by Jane Pope Jewelry, a trip to a 5-star beach resort in Mexico, a closet and fashion consultation, a party at Mixson, and a pair of leather campaign chairs designed exclusively for Garden & Gun Magazine by Moore & Giles. Those are grouped with other items for a fancy tailgate package you can take with you to the Spoleto finale.
If you’re feeling like a high-roller, the live auction on Friday night will have some serious big-ticket items to bid on: 13 days in Tuscany and Umbria; a 2014 Carolina Panthers home game luxury suite for 12; a private sound check with Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn; a dinner for 12 by chef Mike Lata; and a “Have Party, Will Travel” package that includes everything you need to host a party for 40.
Tickets for the party are $150 per person or $1,500 for a table. For purchase, visit spoletousa.org or call (843) 579-3100.
