On Mad Men, Joan may have slept her way to partner, but she was once head of the secretaries at Sterling and Cooper. Her ascent to power is a good lesson for bosses out there. Treat your staff right because you never know who could end up lording over you one day.

High Cotton’s annual Administrative Assistant’s Day luncheon is an exquisitely simple way to not only reward a hard-worker in your life, but to benefit Communities in Schools, a drop-out prevention organization. For 25 bucks, your assistant gets a leisurely three-course lunch, CIS gets 100 percent of the money, and you get to reassure yourself that you are no Mr. Burns.

Go ahead and make your reservations at High Cotton now for Wed. April 23. Seatings are between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and the menu has set choices for each course.

First up is Charleston crab soup or Ambrosia (that’s a blast from the picnic table past, isn’t it?). For the main course, choose from a barbecue lamb sandwich, chicken and waffles, or an oyster caesar salad. Dessert is orange and white chocolate bread pudding or creme brulee.

Pro tip: be a hero and give your assistant the rest of the afternoon to walk off their lunch among the gardens of downtown Charleston. The morale boost will pay off in spades. We promise.
