Holly McGetrick has always wanted to open a store to sell her hand-crafted accessories. Like many artisans starting out, McGetrick began selling her hair accessories on Etsy, but with the help of her techie boyfriend, she soon started hawking her own goods on her very own website. And from there, she opened Dandy Boutique at 43 John St., making her dream a reality. Dandy, which opened this week, offers a variety of McGetrick’s headbands, hair clips, and jewelry, so if you ever need a flower crown, bridal hair comb, or statement necklace, Dandy has you covered.

But it’s not all about the accessories, Dandy also carries women’s clothing and some home décor items. “It’s all vintage inspired with a slight modern twist,” says McGetrick. Brands like Sugarhill and Dear Creatures, which will be familiar to ModCloth shoppers, make up the majority of the clothing selection. Dandy also maintains a fashion blog that gives shoppers ideas about how to pair clothes and accessories from the boutique with items from other retailers like Forever 21.

While the clothing section may dominate the space right now, McGetrick says she hopes to expand Dandy into “a lifestyle boutique” complete with a beauty product section and expanded home decor (currently, it’s mainly home accessories). She would also love to have Dandy become a storefront for other local accessory makers. In the meantime, Dandy has something for “anyone who likes to dress slightly different, not following every new trend, but with their own unique style,” says McGetrick.
