When Josh Kaler, the other half of Charleston’s indie pop band Slow Runner, moved to Nashville last year, frontman and keyboardist Michael Flynn found himself in an unfamiliar place, creatively. The result was a new batch of songs that naturally veered away from the synth-charged, cheerfully sappy Slow Runner sound and took on a life of its own.
“Since it’s just me I can push further into untraditional territory without worrying about the live band or how anything fits with a previous body of work,” Flynn tells us. “For this record, that means lots of electronics, woodwinds, and ’80s hip-hop.” Look out for the official release of A Face in the Cloud with local label Hearts & Plugs come mid July.
