When Josh Kaler, the other half of Charlestonโ€™s indie pop band Slow Runner, moved to Nashville last year, frontman and keyboardist Michael Flynn found himself in an unfamiliar place, creatively. The result was a new batch of songs that naturally veered away from the synth-charged, cheerfully sappy Slow Runner sound and took on a life of its own.

โ€œSince it’s just me I can push further into untraditional territory without worrying about the live band or how anything fits with a previous body of work,โ€ Flynn tells us. โ€œFor this record, that means lots of electronics, woodwinds, and โ€™80s hip-hop.โ€ Look out for the official release of A Face in the Cloud with local label Hearts & Plugs come mid July.
