Let the countdown begin: Shovels & Ropes fans can now set their calendars to Aug. 26. Today, the band’s label announced the release date and title for Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent’s sophomore record, the follow up to 2012’s O’ Be Joyful. The new LP, Swimmin’ Time, was recorded at the husband-and-wife duo’s home studio here in Charleston.

According to the press release, Trent produced the 13-track Swimmin’ Time, a collection of songs that maintain the same raw ShoRo spirit as O’ Be Joyful, while adding new, darker elements to the songwriting. Expect more blissful harmonies on “The Devil is All Around” and very Waits-like tones on “Ohio.”

Though the two have toured extensively this year, they’ll be stopping in town soon, so you can get your fix earlier this summer. Pack a picnic and catch Shovels & Rope at the Spoleto finale at Middleton Place on June 8 for what’s sure to be a hoot-n-hollering homecoming.
