During his last foray as our Spoleto Overview Critic, Jon Santiago compared the Festival to a blind date. “I know that there will be many moments when some Festival event leaves me wondering, ‘Where have you been all my life?,’ he wrote. Whether the love affair continues for 2014 remains to be seen, but we do know we have the right man for the job.

Santiago, has contributed to City Paper since 2007. His first cover story, “Suitcase Full of Songs,” took first place in the S.C. Press Association in 2008. Since then Santiago has filed numerous arts and culture pieces, as well as compelling features such as “Limp of Faith,” which documented his 500-mile walk over the Pyrenees and northern Spain along the medieval pilgrimage route called the Camino de Santiago.

Santiago was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but majored in modern languages at St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto and says he is sometimes mistaken for a Canadian. As a freelance writer, he has been published in The Chicago Tribune, Orange County Register (California), Denver Post, New Haven Advocate, NYTimes.com, katespade.com, and other regional and national publications.
