Someone pour graphic designer Jay Fletcher a shot. The guy deserves it for being selected to create Smirnoff’s 2014 limited edition vodka bottle. We spotted the beachy carafes on Fletcher’s Instagram account last week and had to know more.
“They got in touch several months ago asking if I’d design an ‘American summer-themed’ limited edition bottle, to which I, of course, said yes,” says Fletcher who collaborated with both Smirnoff and their agency in London, Design Bridge. According to their parent company Diageo, Smirnoff is distributed in 130 countries and sold 26.1 million 9-litre cases last year, so this was no small assignment for the local creative.
“It’s obviously incredible, but also sort of nerve-racking to hope the design resonates with such a large audience — nerve-racking in a good way.” says Fletcher. “Everything just wrapped up, and apparently the bottles are all produced and shipped. Now it’s just an issue of when stores start receiving them and putting them on shelves. They sent a picture from a liquor store somewhere in South Carolina that already had it out and displayed, but I have no clue where that store is.”
We called around to local liquor stores to see who might be carrying it, but no one could confirm. Thirsty citizens will have to take to the streets to track down their very own 80 proof Fletcher original.
