Holy. Mother. Every muscle hurts. Chances are, if you skipped your run, you made up for it at Cut Copy’s amazing, frenetic live show at Music Farm Wednesday night. The Australian electronic band knows how to make people dance, and they know how to make people sweat.
While the band played a number of songs from their current album (Free Your Mind), they made sure to play standout gems from previous albums Zonoscope (2011), In Ghost Colours (2008), and Bright Like Neon Love (2004).
Arguably one of the best moments of the night came when the crowd reached a sweaty climax, all hands in the air, everyone singing “Hearts on fire/ I reach out to you tonight” (“Hearts on Fire”).
Throughout the show, the audience was treated to some pretty spectacular lights and visuals, but the most memorable instance came near the end, per a song request from one front-row fan. The band was happy to oblige, and launched into the anthemic “Walking in the Sky,” the scene completed by a backdrop of a cloud-filled, serenely blue sky. Unsurprisingly, quite a few waving hands turned into shadow puppets.
Cut Copy commanded you to Libera tu mente (“free your mind”), the phrase emblazoned across one of the band’s t-shirts sold on the night and clearly—through the sweat, the dancing, and the boozing—most folks achieved enlightenment.
