Like Liza Minnelli and David Guest, grapefruit and beer may seem an odd pair at first glance. Not so says Wendy and Mike Ezelle of The Juice Joint and Arthur Lucas of Freehouse Brewery. The trio recently partnered on two offerings centered on organic grapefruit: Freehouse’s “Folly’s Pride” grapefruit blonde summer session ale and The Juice Joint’s organic grapefruit agua fresca with blueberry and mint.
According to a press release, the collaboration began when, “Freehouse wanted to use the zest of organic grapefruits but didn’t want to waste the rest of the fruit, so they reached out to us and we jumped at the chance to work with the juice,” says Wendy.
Curious taste testers may find both options available on Folly Beach. Chico Feo’s and Jack of Cups are serving Folly Pride and the grapefruit agua fresca can be found at The Juice Joint (108 East Ashley Ave.), as well as at the Charleston Farmers Market while supplies last.
